KUALA TERENGGANU, Jan 1 (Bernama) -- Various kinds of aid continue streaming in, to help alleviate the hardship faced by flood victims in the state, including the mobilisation of about 1,500 people from the Terengganu State Volunteer Squad (SSNT) to the flood-hit areas, especially in Dungun and Kemaman. SSNT chairman, Mohd Johari Abu Bakar said the squad, established last week, would focus on rehabilitation work after the floods, such as cleaning up the affected areas and coordinating the distribution of contributions from the public. "We started to gather in Dungun and Kemaman yesterday and will be here for one week to help restore areas which have been affected and hopefully, our help will provide some relief to the flood victims. "SSNT is made up of more than 30 bodies comprising youth organisations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), political parties, government agencies and institutions of higher learning, UMNO Youth and Puteri, Terengganu Youth Council, state 4B Youth Movement, Youth Friends, Terengganu MAYC and the District Youth Council," he told reporters, here, today. In addition to the four-wheel-drive and motor club teams, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), the Industrial Training Institute (ILP) and TESDEC College will also be involved. Government agencies such as the Youth and Sports Department, Terengganu Family Development Foundation (YPKT), Terengganu People Transformation Agency (ATRA), Terengganu State Communications Unit, the local authorities and district offices will be involved in mobilising the squad. Mohd Johari, who is also Terengganu Umno Youth chief, said the squad would accept various forms of contribution from the public to be distributed to the flood victims. "We have set up an operations room at the State Youth and Sports office in Pasir Panjang, Kuala Terengganu to collect donations from the public, NGOs and corporations," he said.
