"This tie-up can produce more skilled manpower for the oil and gas industry," he said during ILJTM East Region convocation recently.

The Industrial Training Institute (ILP) in Kota Samarahan and Miri, he added, had worked with various industries to train a total of 17,676 people through short courses from 2007till now.

Among the industrial players involved are Shamelin Group of Companies, Bakun Hydro Electric, Sarawak Energy Berhad, Sapura Kencana, Petroleum Sdn Bhd, and Petra Energy Resources.

"We hope more school leavers in Sarawak will pursue skill-based training programmes to ensure the country has a sustainable number of skilled manpower."

Among the programmes offered at ILP Miri and ILP Kota Samarahan are welding technology, automotive, machinery instruments, electric, mechatronic, industrial products designing technology, freezing and air conditioning technology, and also oil and gas pipe installation technology.

In total, ILJTM Miri and Kota Samarahan have produced 5,387 graduates in various fields so far.
